Perrenland Geography
Forests
Perrenland
has few large woodlands, with most forests and brakes confined to individual
valleys or local watercourses. Certain areas of the Clatspur ranges and Sepia
Uplands are lightly forested but these are more fringes of the Vesve Forest
than true woodlands. The Yatils have even fewer large areas of trees, the
terrain is too rugged and the weather too cold during the winter. Instead,
mountainsides tend to be open, covered with a light scrub oak or mountain
beech, tussocks, brackens and ferns. Stands of pines do occur, but are confined
to the lower valleys or along short watercourses that cut steep walls through
the Yatils. The single largest area of woodland in Perrenland is around the
Gate of the Velverdyva, the narrow pass that separates the Yatils and Clatspurs.
Perrenlanders are cautious of over-harvesting these woodlands, knowing full
well the effects of erosion when ground cover is removed.
