Perrenland Geography
Mountains
Perrenland is defined by the two great mountain ranges that mark its borders, the Clatspur ranges and the mighty Yatil Mountains.
The Clatspurs begin in the area known as the Gate of the Velverdyva, the great
gorge that separates Perrenland from Highfolk and the Vesve Forest to the
east. They continue north until they reach the Steppes, the lands of the Wolf
Nomads, a distance of nearly two hundred miles.
The west and south of Perrenland are marked by the Yatils, a great ring of
mountains that sweep west from the Gate of the Velverdyva for several hundred
miles, and then due north, all the way to the lands of the Tiger Nomads. The
Yatil Mountains are among the tallest in all the Flanaess, topped only by
the Crystalmists to which they are related. Within this tangled mass are many
of the highest peaks on Oerth, including such famous peaks as Mt. Euroz, Iggwilv's
Horn and the Tsjocanth massif.
The Yatils are known for the many and strange monsters that descend from its fastnesses on occasion, though in reality these monsters are usually less numerous and fierce then their southern cousins that lair among the Crystalmists. Giants in particular are not as common as one would expect for the terrain, but this is more than compensated for by the red and blue dragons that inhabit the interior. Gnomes and dwarves extensively mine for copper in the Yatils - there are few veins of more precious metal. The Yatils are also known for numerous "lost artefact" stories. Whether there is any truth in these legends is another matter.
