Perrenland Geography
Northern Steppes
Both
the Yatil and Clatspur ranges end in the dry cold steppes of the Wolf and
Tiger Nomads, vast dry grasslands that sweep east from the Drawmidj Ocean
to the Land of Iuz. Perrenland's northern border may be its greatest weakness:
Lake Quag blocks most of the access to the north but strips of steppeland
to either side of the lake still allow forays by nomads into Perrenland's
more settled regions. Several large fortresses of Dwarven design mark the
end of the Yatils, where the mountains meet the plains. Similar fortifications
exist on the Clatspur side of the lake. Indeed, Perrenland is actively expanding
its presence in the area north of the Clatspurs, and has claimed the entire
Sepia Uplands as a ninth Canton, Vesbergen. In general, tensions between Perrenlanders
and nomad folk are manageable, though occasional raids and ambushes occur,
particularly by Tiger Nomads. Because of the cold, dry climate associated
with these fortresses and their general isolation, posting to these places
is not a sign of favour: either you're seeking rapid promotion or you're out
of favor with your superiors.
