Perrenland's Fighting Forces

Perrenland’s Fighting Forces are broken down into these key divisions:

Auszug - generally 17-30 year old human troops, mostly unmarried. This is the elite, standing army of Perrenland.
Landwehr - older troops, and those 17-30 year olds not in the regular auszug, who serve as reservists. This does not require as much of a time commitment as the regular auszug.
Landstrum - This is the emergency-only force, taking all troops able to fight, including those older and younger than otherwise accepted.
Canton based troops - these are too varied to list, but each canton, all canton leaders, and some rich merchants maintain their own elite group of warriors - usually no more than 200 and often less (perhaps 6 or 8), who form a personal guard.
Mercenary Units and the Pax Mercuri - One of Perrenland’s main "exports", mercenary units have played a great part both in the establishment and survival of Perrenland, and its continued existence as a separate nation. The Pax does not consider itself part of the Perrenland Military, and is not managed by the military hierarchy.

Player Characters can currently join the Auszug, Landwehr or Pax Mercuri.

The Auszug are the elite standing forces of the Perrenland Army. There are actually 5 different Auszug, representing different branches within the military, and 8 different Auszugen. Each Auszugen has a base of operations, and is a collection of troops with different specialities (that is, containing troops from each Auszug). A member of the Auszug will always belong to both an Auszug and an Auszugen. The Auszug are:

Fuss Auszug - infantry
Hors Auszug - cavalry
Art Auszug - engineers
Aid Auszug - healers
Speziallerie Auszug - commandos

The Landwehr are the Perrenland reservists. Landwehr members are expected to provide their own equipment. Uniforms are also provided by the person, in the colours of their Canton. These vary widely from person to person in quality, design and colour tints, creating a mismatched look to the units which mask the unit cohesion and training.

The Pax Mercuri are Perrenland's famous mercenaries, posted to trouble spots throughout the Flanaess. The Pax are divided into 5 specialities, with elements of each normally present at each posting. The specialities are:

Fussvolk - infantry
Kavallerie - cavalry
Ingenieur - engineers
Medizinier - healers
Speziallerie - commandos
