International Halfling Society (Hobniz Vereniging)
Revised for 596 CY
The International Halfling Society was created out of a deep feeling of loyalty
felt by halflings everywhere. The organisation is not overseen by anyone in
particular, but is more geographically driven. Halflings that live and work
together know each other well, and do as much as they can within their powers
to make fellow small-folk feel as much at home on the road as they do in their
own towns.
The local Chapterhouse is usually a halfling-run inn that will put up halfling
travellers and often has an attached field in which larger troupes can camp.
The Society supports the local settled halfling community, organising apprenticeships,
festivals, aid for widows and other similar community based activity.
The society draws much of its funding from the small annual dues paid by
halflings across Perrenland - which is also one of the reasons for its success.
Each year at the start of spring, society parties are thrown across the nation,
attracting more members (and dues) each year. Instead of the funds ending
up pooled together, the organization mostly exists on the local level, where
inn owners use the funds to support local activities, along with providing
discounted or free short stay accommodation to members passing through. Because
halflings generally like to travel, the dues end up spread across the land
along with the business and trade the society creates. In recent years society
chapter houses have spread to appear among some of the neighbouring nations
of Perrenland (Iuz's Border States regions) – it is widely thought that the
society's origins are not local ...
There are two main types of membership of the International Halfling Society:
friend and fellow. A friend is the standard type
of member of the society, while a fellow is a more senior member.
