The Skâmtèguleren (Shame Criers)
Revised for 596CY
The Skâmtèguler (Shame Crier) originated from the non-combatants standing
on the edge of battle, urging the warriors on during tribal and clan conflicts.
Eventually, the most vitriolic, vehement and foul-mouthed harridan accompanied
them into battle; and her person became sacrosanct amongst Perrenders. Hardened
warriors would fight more ferociously rather than face her insults, which
meant the Skâmtèguleren started to control the flow of battle and developed
an understanding of warfare rivalled only by the clan war chiefs.
In modern-day Perrenland, Skâmtèguleren are often found as adjuncts to officers
in the field, where they can pass orders to the ranks or even take command if
needed, although they hold no official rank themselves. Their person is sacrosanct,
and anyone harming a Skâmtèguler will often have their heads presented to the
Skâmtèguler or her family. As a side benefit, clansfolk, trying to appease her
wrath in battle, shower her with gifts. This allows her to live like a Queen
while at home among her clan.

entry.
