The Shool of the Old Kerk
The Shool represent faith. They tend the shrines and the
Great Temples, and minister to the religious needs of worshippers. They are
commonly clerics and paladins.
Many followers of the Old Kerk choose to dedicate themselves not only to
the gods of the Old Kerk but to one of them in particular and join a shrine
of the Kerk. They are collectively referred to as The Shool and are the Old
Kerk's divine priesthood. As a group, the Shool focus their attention upon
the ordinary day-to-day affairs of tending to the faithful. They meet to discuss
religious law, matters that affect the church as a whole, and to settle matters
of religious dispute between clerics and worshippers in matters not covered
by Den Recht (The Law). They also run hospitals, schools, and orphanages,
and serve in the Auszug or Pax Mercuri.
Some take a more adventurous outlook and seek out places were their skills
are tested against traditional foes and evil. They tend to be more focused
upon maintaining good than law. Clerics of the Shool are often more generalist
than most clerics, but they still must choose a single god from the pantheon
as their primary deity.
Each Shool has its own leadership, and one member of each one the nine Shools (Nerull has no public cult) is elected to the position of HetShoolmann, and
given the responsibility of representing their shool on the HetShoolmann council.
The members of the HetShoolmann council run the affairs of the Old Kerk
and elect their own leader, the HetVoorShoolmann, who has held a position in the
Concatenated Council of all Perrenland ever since the Voormann ceased to be the leader of the Shool in 491 CY.
