Scenarios

Scenarios are the main reason all of us are involved in Living Greyhawk. They are how the character you create gets involved in the Greyhawk world and takes part in the events that shape the region.

A scenario (also known as adventure, module or game) is a pre-written adventure game involving a gamemaster (GM) who tells the story and 4 to 6 players whose characters take part in the story. In general the scenario will set out the events that the characters have become involved in and will provide a framework for the GM to play out the results of the characters' actions. Along the way, the characters will encounter a variety of challenges such as puzzles to solve, traps to avoid, people to interact with or obtain information from, and enemies to defeat.

Scenarios are written for characters of a specific range of experience, measured by the character's level. Each scenario will have an Average Party Level (APL) range that it supports. The APL is the recommended average character level of the characters playing a scenario. See the Living Greyhawk Campaign Standards document for details on calculating a party's APL. Note that a character 3 or more levels above or below the APL being played will only get half the awarded experience and gold.

Each session is assumed to be 4-6 hours long. Most scenarios are a single session long, but those that are longer are indicated in the various listings below.

Scenario Descriptions

Scenarios are divided into 4 broad categories: regional, meta-regional, core and adapted. In general, scenarios are available until the end of the year after they are published. They are then retired from play and become part of the history of Living Greyhawk. We strongly recommend that you play older scenarios before newer scenarios whenever that is possible, particularly when there is a scenario series: it can be confusing and reduce your enjoyment of the scenarios if you play part three of a series before you play parts one and two, for example.

Regional scenarios

Perrenland regional scenarios are written exclusively for play in our region, and deal with events that take place in Perrenland.

Meta-regional scenarios

Iuz's Border States meta-regional scenarios are written for play by the five regions bordering the territory of Iuz: the Bandit Kingdoms, Furyondy, Highfolk, Perrenland, and the Shield Lands. They deal with events that take place in and around Iuz lands and which will ultimately affect all of the listed regions.

Core scenarios

Core scenarios deal with plot lines affecting the whole of the Flanaess. Past plotlines included the Ether Threat and the Brendigund series. For details of Core scenarios, see the excellent Core Scenario Listing at the Theocracy of the Pale site.

Adapted scenarios

Adapted scenarios take a published Wizards of the Coast scenario and adapt it for Living Greyhawk play. They are treated like Core scenarios for most purposes.
