Towns of Perrenland

Kershane

Location: south-eastern Perrenland, in the Clatspurs, capital of the Principality of Kershane

Population: 5,240 (primarily grey elves)

Description: In the forest of Kershane stands a lone mountain, the namesake of the forest, which rises out of the treeline. On the southern slope of this mountain lies the beautiful grey elven city of Kershane. The city proper is surrounded by tall walls made of white marble, with seven towers at strategic points, each wall with a dead zone of about 500 feet before reaching the treeline closer to the base of the mountain. In times of peace, this dead zone is used for crops.

The city is divided into roughly four layers, from closest to the wall to the peak of the mountain. The people who live in those areas and the business that takes place there differentiate the layers.

Kershane was surrounded by an energy field known as the Shroud of Souls, which was created when the artifact known as the Kershinarim was activated in 142 CY during a desperate struggle with the army of the treacherous Tilfias Rood. This energy field can only be breached by those who bear a Brooch of Passing, though the field has been growing weaker with each breaching, and some can now bypass it by sheer force of will.

Cut off from the outside world for 450 years by the Shroud of Souls, Kershane has rejoined the modern world. Most trade is handled by the Vossers of Clatspurgen, who distribute Kershanite goods to the rest of Perrenland, and the dwarves of Oost-Khundhal, who supply the city with various ores, including mithril.

Things to do: Anyone fortunate enough to be given a Brooch of Passing and to be admitted to Kershane will be delighted by the buildings and gardens of the city.

Scenarios featuring Kershane: Where Roodbergs Fear to Tread (PER 7-01).
